Germany Granted 1.29 Million Schengen Visas in 2024

A total of 1.5 million visa applications were received by German consulates and visa application centres in 2024, 3.6 per cent more than the 1.4 million applications received in the previous year.

According to statistics published by SchengenVisaInfoGermany received 12.9 per cent of 11.7 million applications, ranking third for most applications received. In 2024, Germany issued 1.29 million visas, up by 4.7 per cent compared to 1.23 million issued in the previous year. The approval rates are different for Germany this year, from 84.52 per cent in 2023 to 85.41 per cent in 2024.

Here Are the Top Applicants for the Germany Visa in 2024

Germany received visa applications from a total of 124 out of 161 countries, from which applicants filed visa requests to Schengen states in 2024.

As the data reveal, these are the top applicants for Schengen visas in Germany for 2024:

  1. China – applicants filed 263,088 applications, comprising 17.3  per cent of all visa requests filed to this country.
  2. Türkiye – 215,506 applications, 14.24 per cent of the total.
  3. India – 142,955 applications, 9.4 per cent
  4. Egypt – 52,442 applications, 3.4 per cent
  5. Belarus – 51,841 applications, 3.4 per cent
  6. Kazakhstan – 45,094 applications, 2.98 per cent
  7. Saudi Arabia – 43,883 applications, 2.90 per cent
  8. Thailand – 39,497 applications, 2.61 per cent
  9. Iran – 39,146 applications, 2.58 per cent
  10. United Arab Emirates – 32,956 applications, 2.17 per cent

On the other hand, the nationalities that obtained the most visas from Germany for 2024, in terms of approval rates, include Hong Kong, with a 99.53 per cent approval rate. Applicants from Hong Kong filed 2,344 visa applications for a German visa, and 2,333 of them were approved, and ten were rejected.

The list of top five countries that had the highest visa approval consists of Madagascar (184 approved visas, 98.92 per cent approval rate), Belarus (50,459, 97.33 per cent), Singapore (6,136, 96.55 per cent), and China (253,505, 96.36 per cent).

Germany Was Top Destination for These Nationals

However, when it comes to countries where Germany was the number one destination for applicants, Botswana stands out. In 2024, applicants from Botswana filed 1,633 Schengen visa applications – all of them to Germany.

Applicants from Lithuania, indicating foreigners living in this country, are listed second, with 75 out of 76 applications being directed to Germany, 98.68 per cent of the total.

Namibia is third with 2,877 out of 5,118 applications, or 56.21 per cent, while Mongolia is listed fourth with 11,953, or 54.36 per cent of their applications out of a total of 21,987 being for a German visa. Applicants from Nepal filed 7,817 visa applications in 2024, and 4,219 or 53.97 per cent were directed to Germany.
