92% increased food checks during this year’s Easter – 218% more offenses were found

Sweeping were the checks performed by the audit services during the Easter festive season on the market of their food.

According to data from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, a total of 7,958 checks were carried out during this year’s Easter period, increased by 92% compared to 4,140 checks of 2024.

“The controls focused on ensuring the quality and safety of food, as well as the preventing misleading phenomena, with particular emphasis on” Greekization “of products of agricultural origin,” said the Athenian -Macedonian News Agency.

A key, in all this effort, was the role of the working group that had been set up at the initiative of the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Costas Tsiaras, and is responsible for the daily coordination of controls throughout the range of the supply chain.

Its main mission was the coordination of the authorities involved, to enhance interdisciplinary cooperation and to ensure the cover of all critical points of entry and handling products at national level.

According to official data from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the number of last Easter violations of the last Easter period was increased by 218%.

Specifically, last Easter, the control mechanisms found 547 violations when 172 was found in 2024.

Finally, one issue that burns Greek breeders is the “Greekizations” of lambs and goats.

According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, 1,298 lamb carcasses from Romania were found, totaling 17,886kg which had been “baptized” as Greek.
