Living life can lead to Alzheimer’s

OR sedentary life Particularly by older people can cause many problems even Alzheimer’s.

Specifically, prolonged sedentary life by elderly can worse the mental state and shrinkage of brain areas associated with the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

This is a study by the Medical Center of Vanderbilt University and the University of Pittsburgh, published in the Alzheimer’s & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The team of researchers examined the relationship between sedentary behavior and neurodegeneration in 404 adults, aged 50 and over. Study participants wore a watch that was constantly measuring their activity for a week. Subsequently, the sedentary behavior time was associated with their cognitive performance and brain scans taken during a seven -year follow -up period.

As it was found, participants who spent more time sitting were more likely to show cognitive discount and neurodegenerative changes no matter how much they were practicing. These conclusions were stronger to participants who carried the APOE-E4 genotype, a genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease, suggesting that decrease in living time can be particularly important even for older adults who have increased genetic risk for Alzheimer’s disease.

“Reduction of the risk for Alzheimer’s disease is not just about exercise once a day. Minimizing the time you spend sitting, even if you exercise daily, Reduces the likelihood of Alzheimer’s disease“, Notes the head of the study, Marisa Gonia, Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh.
