The Albanian Party “Alliance for the Albanians” led by the Minister of Health at Northern MacedoniaArben Taravari, decided to leave the prime minister’s government coalition Christian Mitskoski.
Taravari proposed to the party bodies the departure from the government of Christian Mitskoski in northern Macedonia of the two ministers, representing his party in it (health and good governance), his two deputy ministers and the “public organizations”.
His proposal was unanimously accepted and in the coming days the resignations of his executives are expected.
Last month, the “Alliance for the Albanians” left the Albanian Coalition Vlen (deserved) involved in the country’s government. Taravari’s party was the largest of this Albanian coalition.
The “alliance for the Albanians” has five Members in the parliament of Northern Macedonia, which consists of 120 MPs.
The government coalition led by Christian Mitskoski is supported by 78 MPs. Although the five MPs of the “Albanian Alliance” pass through the opposition seats, then the government will be supported by 73 MPs, it will continue to have a comfortable parliamentary majority.
Arben Taravari said in his statements that the government “lost its way to Brussels”, as its European course remains stagnant and the country was making no progress, and noted that Albanians in the public sector of Northern Macedonia were increasingly marginalized.
He added that he could not allow Albanians involved in the government to play a “puppet” role in it, while noting that the government failed to comply with the promises it had made to the country’s citizens.
Taravari is reportedly ready to cooperate, in view of the Municipal Elections to be held in October, with the opposition and larger Albanian party in Northern Macedonia, the DUI of Ali Ahmeti, which caused her tricks.
Christian Mitskoski made it clear that any party involved in the government approaches the DUI then violates the principles of government cooperation and automatically ceases to have a position in the government. The same is said by the other three Albanian parties of the Vlen coalition involved in the government, which accuse Taravari of choosing to work with Ali Ahmeti’s “corrupt” DUI.
The DUI welcomed the “alliance for the Albanians” to leave the government, while noting that the Vlen coalition is no longer legalized to represent the interests of Albanians in Northern Macedonia, which make up 25% of the country’s population. All the governments of Northern Macedonia always participate in one or more Albanian parties, including to maintain fragile international balances in the country.
The Albanian coalition Vlen was formed by four Albanian parties last year, as an opponent “awe” in the powerful DUI, which has been involved in all Northern Macedonia coalition governments for all the previous 20 years.
In the last parliamentary elections held in Northern Macedonia in May 2024, the Vlen Coalition occupied 14 seats (five belonging to Arben Taravari’s party), while the other major Albanian lineup in Northern Macedonia, the coalition of the Dui. However, the Prime Minister of the country and leader of the Right-wing VMRO-DPMNE party, Christian Mitskoski, chose to the government from the Albanian political bloc, the Vlen Coalition, claiming that the DUI, in the past 20 years, has been involved in the Coalition Governments, country.
The Vlen Coalition is involved in the coalition government of Northern Macedonia with six ministers (out of 23 ministries numbered by the government of Christian Mitskoski).
The Vlen Coalition was up to four Albanian parties a few days ago: the “democratic movement” by Iset Metziti, Besa’s “Besa” by Bilal Kasami, who is also the mayor of Tetovo, Alternativa’s “Alternativa) of Zekiria Ibrahimi and his” Alternativa ” Taravari, who was the most prominent among the four leaders of this coalition. Following the latest developments, Vlen’s three remaining leaders have begun the processes to convert this coalition into a single party, without the “alliance for the Albanians” of Taravari.
According to political analysts in Skopje, if Taravari collaborates with Ahmeti, then Vlen is in danger of turning into a marginal political formation, which will in no way be entitled to represent the interests of Albanians in the government, and that it may be launching policies.
