Vangelis Liolios passed away at the age of 65. He was born in Chalastra Thessaloniki and had collaborated with popular Greek artists, including Nikos Papazoglou.
At a young age he began to learn bouzouki, later taking theoretical lessons at the Macedonian Conservatory of Thessaloniki. As we read in voria.gr at the age of 15 he worked professionally in big shops of the city as the first bouzouki and accompanied big names of Greek song such as: S. Dionysiou, M. Linda, L. Diamanti, T. Voskopoulos, P. Panou, G. Zambetas, G. Parios, K. Grai, Doukisa, M. Mitsias, M. Angelopoulos, G. Poulopoulos, G. Dalaras, Ch. Alexiou and others.
in 1973 he accompanied Eleni Vitali to the Thessaloniki Festival and the song “Without a penny” and in 1975 Vassilis Tsitsanis to the song “Cloudy Sunday” at the Tsitsanis Award for his contribution to Greek song.
In 1982, a collaboration and a strong friendship was created with Nikos Papazoglou, with concerts in Greece and abroad, while he also played on Papazoglou’s albums: “Haratsi”, “Meso Nefon”, “When you are in danger, play the cigar”, “Ma ‘ equal moon “. Vangelis Liolios was a key member of the “Loxi Phalanga” orchestra. Nikos Papazoglou introduced him to the public, saying “the right-handed Chinese Vangelis Liolios plays the bouzouki”.
In 1984 he opened his own hangout “Music Tavern Liolios” together with his wife Fotini Kofinas. He had 2 sons, Konstantinos and Dimitris.
An announcement of his death was issued by the Association of Musicians of Northern Greece, in which he said goodbye to him as one of the leading bouzouki soloists.
