Two memorandums concerning the improvement of electrical interconnection Greece and Italyas well as the upgrading of passenger rail transport in our country, were signed in Rome during his 2nd Supreme Cooperation Council.
As the relevant update states:
“1. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ADMIE and the Italian Terna Network Administrator for the upgrade of the electrical interconnection of the two countries to triple the existing opportunity, from 500 MW to 1,500 MW.
As Greece increases its installed power generation power, especially through investment in renewables, it upgrades its position as an energy hub and energy security provider in Southeast Europe. Last year, Greece was a net electricity exporter for the first time since 2000. Italy, for its part, introduces large amounts of energy, so it is a mutually beneficial cooperation.
The project is also aligned with the importance of the Greek government to the construction of transnational electrical interconnections, to tackle chronic pricing distortions in the European energy market, but also to ensure better supply, reducing the risk of blackout, like the one that happened a few weeks ago.
2. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Italian State Group Ferrovie Dello Stato, to which Hellenic Train belongs to Upgrading of passenger rail transport in Greece.
Given the Greek state’s investment order for the logistical upgrading of the railways, the Italian group pledged to invest 360m euros for:
– the purchase of a total of 23 trains, eight intercity rapids and 15 suburban type
– The formation of modern trainings to ensure long -term maintenance of trains
Ferrovie Dello Stato’s commitments will be clearly reflected in the new revised contract of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport with the Hellenic Train, with timetable clauses.
The two Memorandums above are included in a total of 12+2 agreements and mous’ signed in the context of the 2nd ASS of Greece – Italy and described in detail in the Joint Declaration of the two leaders. “.
