Instructions for protection from forest fires
Forest fires
YOU
If you are in the countryside
- Do not burn trash or dry grass and branches during the summer months.
- Do not light outdoor barbecues in the forests or in places where there are dry grass in summer.
- Avoid tasks that may cause fire (eg electrolls, wheel use or other sparks).
- Do not throw lit cigarettes.
- Do not leave the trash in the woods. There is a risk of ignition.
- Respect the prohibitive access to high -risk periods.
If your home is in or near a forest
- Create a fireplace around the house by cleaning at least 10 meters of dry grass and leaves, pine needles and branches.
- Prune the trees up to 3 meters high, depending on their age and condition.
- Remove dry branches from trees and shrubs.
- Do not let the tree branches rest on the walls, roof and balconies of the house. Prune them by leaving a distance of at least 5 meters from the house.
- Dilute the tree vegetation so that the branches of one tree are at least 3 meters from each other’s branches. For even greater protection, we remove the tree -lush and bushy vegetation around the building at least 10 meters away as long as the natural vegetation purification work imposed to protect buildings in any case do not in any way conflict with the provisions of forest legislation.
- Do not place plastic gutters or tubes on the walls of the house.
- Do not place shutters of flammable materials on the windows and balcony doors.
- Make sure that the covers in the chimneys and air ducts of the house are made of non -volume so that sparks do not penetrate.
- Do not store flammable items near the house.
- Place the firewood in closed and protected areas.
- Do not build uncovered fuel tanks near the house.
- Get the right fire extinguishers and take care of their maintenance.
- Equipment with watering pipe analogous to the area you want to protect.
- Equipment with a water tank, a simple pump operating without electricity and a water pipe.
Once you perceive a fire
- Call the Fire Service Immediately (tel. 199) and provide clear information about:
– the location and the exact point you are in,
– the location, the exact point and the direction of the fire.
– The type of burning vegetation.
YOU
If the fire is approaching your home
- Keep your temper.
- Transfer all flammable materials from the surroundings of the building to closed and protected areas.
- Close all the diodes (chimneys, windows, doors, etc.) so that the burns do not penetrate inside the house.
- Close gas and liquid fuel benefits inside and outside the house.
- Gather the awnings on the balconies and windows.
- Facilitate firefighting vehicles by opening the garden door.
- Place a staircase on the outside of the house, as opposed to the direction of the fire so that it can access the roof immediately.
- Connect the watering pipes and spread them to cover the perimeter of the house.
- If visibility is reduced, light its inner and external lights to make it visible through the smoke.
As soon as the fire passes
- Get out of the house and immediately extinguish the left -wing petrums.
- Check for at least 48 hours, at regular intervals, perimeter and outdoors of the house for the possibility of resurgence.
If the fire has arrived at your home
- Do not give up the building unless your escape is fully secured.
- Don’t get in a car. The likelihood of survival in a home made of foolish materials is much greater than that in a car in tobacco and flames.
- If you stay at home:
– Close doors and windows well.
– Block the scratches with wet sails so that the smoke does not get in.
– Remove the curtains from the windows.
– Transfer to the interior of the rooms the furniture near the windows and exterior doors.
– Close the intermediate doors to slow down the spread of fire.
– Fill the bathtub, sinks and buckets with spare water.
– Gather all together in a room.
– Make sure there is a lens and backup batteries with you in the event of a power outage. - If your home is wooden look for refuge in a built house.
- If an organized removal is ordered from the area, follow the instructions of the Authorities and the routes that will be given to you.
