The US President Donald Trump announced that the guerrillas Houthi Yemen “capitulated” and promised that the US bombings in that country would stop immediately.
“Houthi have announced (…) that they no longer want to fight. They just don’t want to fight anymore. And we will honor that. We will stop the bombings and capitulated, “Donald Trump said, speaking to the Oval Office before Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Trump said the bombings would end as Iran backed rebels agreed to stop disturbing navigation in the Middle East.
“Houthi have said, please do not bomb us and we will not attack your ships,” he said.
Oman says she mediated for a ceasefire between Houthi and the US
Oman has announced that it had intervened to reach a ceasefire agreement between the Yemeni and the US, which marks a very significant change of guerrilla policy after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip in October 20.
“Following recent talks and contacts of Oman’s Sultanate with the US and the competent authorities in Sanaaa (…) efforts have reached a ceasefire agreement between the two sides,” Oman Foreign Minister Badr Al Busayi said. The minister clarified that “in the future, neither side will target the other.” The deal also includes US ships in the Red Sea and the narrow bab al Madeb.
However, according to the Bloomberg agency, a member of the Houthi Political Council denied that there was an agreement and said that the rebel operations in the Red Sea and against Israel would not stop until the war in Gaza ended.
During a meeting at the Oval Office with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump said that the Houthi had been clashing that they no longer want to fight. “They said, please do not bomb us anymore and we will stop the attacks on your ships. And I will accept their word and stop the bombings immediately on Houthis, “Trump said.
“They say that our ships will no longer blast and that was our goal,” Trump added, stressing that the information came from a “very good source”.
In solidarity with the Palestinians of Gaza, Houthis have taken responsibility for dozens of rocket attacks and unmanned aircraft in Israel and on merchant vessels that they consider to be linked to Israeli interests.
In retaliation, the US, under the presidency of Joe Biden, started operations against rebels in Yemen in January 2024. These blows were intensified this year, after March 15, under the presidency of Trump. The US military says it has hit more than 1,000 targets from this day, killing “hundreds of Houthi fighters and many leaders”.
