A political thriller is ongoing in Germany with Friedrich Mertz be in shock status after not being elected in place chancellor from the German Parliament.
According to Bild, it was finally decided after consultations that are constantly a second round of Bundestag voting for the election of Friedrich Mertz, which will begin shortly after 16:00.
Mertz in the first vote failed to gather the required majority of 316 MPs out of a total of 630. They voted 310 (the CDU/CSU-SPD coalition has 328 MPs), by 307, while there were 3 abstentions and one invalid vote. Nine Members were absent from the process.
It is a development that no one expected. A total of 18 MPs from the government camp did not vote in favor of Friedrich Mertz, making a serious blow to both himself and the government.
However, Christian Democrats and Social Democrats assure that the 18 leaks did not come from their own camp and left implicitly on the other side. There is no way to support Mertz, the Greens are once again clarifying.
