By renewing the contract of experienced staff, we ensure that the needs are met daily throughout the country, “said Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidou.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, the amendment passed on Wednesday night (30.4.2025) by Parliament provides for the possibility of renewing fixed -term contracts for social welfare workers.
The aim is to ensure the continuation of the proper functioning of the social welfare centers in all regions of the country, as well as the Center for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind (KEAT) and the Evritania Chronic Diseases, by maintaining the necessary human resources.
Specifically, it is possible to renew up to up to 8 months of the contracts concluded under the decisions:
- DIPAD/FIGR/50/6644/5.5.2022,
- DIPAD/FP/59/6625/20.4.2023 and
- DIPAD/FIGR/89/17643/23.10.2023.
The possibility of renewal may be exercised within two months of the entry into force of that regulation, by decision of the competent recruitment body.
The arrangement covers about 104 employees and aims:
- In the uninterrupted continuation of the provision of services by experienced staff to vulnerable social groups,
- In strengthening the operational readiness of social welfare bodies,
- and maintaining the quality of care and support for beneficiaries.
The cost of renewing contracts is estimated at EUR 1.05 million and is covered by the already approved budgets of the bodies. The nature of the contracts does not change and is not counted within the maximum of 24 months, in accordance with the PD. 164/2004.
“With this arrangement,” said Domna Michaelidou, “over 100 experienced workers who meet daily and vital needs in welfare structures will continue to offer their services to our vulnerable fellow citizens. It is a political decision that responds to a social need. It is political with deeds ยป
