At the same time, according to ministry sources, shipping companies had already announced increases in ticket prices by 12% to 15%, due to the increased price of the new low emission fuel, which is now mandatory from 1 May, under European legislation.
To prevent these increases, the government has reduced port fees by 50%, thereby offsetting a significant part of the costs required to manage the ferry. This measure allowed prices to maintain this year’s levels.
Indicatively, if the increases were in place, the ticket cost for a passenger from Piraeus to Paros would increase from 45 euros to about 50 euros. For a four -member family with car traveling to Naxos, the burden would exceed 40 euros. Corresponding increases would also be observed in more remote destinations, such as Santorini and Lesvos.
