Tsiodra to Commission: imperative to strengthen EU infrastructure resilience to deal with crisis

Measures to enhance the resilience of infrastructure to deal with crisis, is demanding that the MEP and a spokesman for the ND Eurogroup, a spokesman for the ND, Dimitris Tsiodraswith his question to the European Commission.

Specifically, he asks the Commission “What steps will he take to increase investment and mobilize funding with the aim of enhancing infrastructure resilience and how to support Member States in the areas of readiness and planning for such phenomena.».

As he notes, ‘EU infrastructure, such as energy networks, telecommunications and transportation are particularly vulnerable to significant risks, threats and extreme situations».

He also stresses that ”The interconnection and interdependence of these infrastructures makes the consequences even greater, in the event of crisis, for citizens and the economy, as it was found this week with the extensive power outage that hit Spain, Portugal and France areas.».

He concludes, underlining the need for the Commission to support Member States on readiness, including identifying, evaluating and developing updated risks and threats.
