THE Prince William attended the funeral of Pope Francis, held in the Vatican last Saturday (26.04.2025), without his wife, Kate Middleton.
The 42 -year -old prince of Wales represented his father, King Charles at the burial ceremony of Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, Italy. Prince William was photographed near British Prime Minister Kir Starmer but also with the German Chancellor, Olf Saltz, but without Kate Middleton near him.
The absence of the Welsh princess was remarkable, as the spouses of other officials – including Melania Trump and Jill Biden – were present at the religious ceremony along with their respective wives, President Trump.
According to reports in the British press, the royal protocol does not provide for a British blue -eyed wife to accompany him to funerals of heads of state or at the Pope’s funeral.
Thus, in April 2005, then Prince Charles also went to the funeral of Pope Ioannis Pavlos II – although he was to marry Camilla Parker Bowles the following day of the ceremony.
However, in addition to the royal protocol, another reason Kate Middleton did not travel to Rome to attend Pope Francis’ funeral is her health. Since March 2024, when the future queen had announced that she was diagnosed with cancer, she has not made any official trip abroad.
According to Town and Country, Kate Middleton – who completed her treatment for cancer just last September – continues to be careful about the public events in which she is going.
Princess Kathryn is expected to make her first public appearance after five weeks on Wednesday for a two -day visit to the islands of Scotland.
