First of all, I would like to wish Christ Risen, Happy Birthday, Health and joys to you and your families again.
The state budget data for 2024, just announced by Eurostat and ELSTAT, record a significant over -performance of the national economy and a surplus in public funds. Which means that, with everyone’s effort, we did much better than we were.
The dynamic development, along with the treatment of tax evasion, as well as a number of other structural measures, brought additional revenue, above the goals we had set. And so, despite the strict European fiscal rules, a serious part of them can now return to citizens. I had also said that this is also the goal of this government: collective progress to gradually turn into individual prospects.
The latest evolution, of course, justifies a policy that combines the country’s recovery with social care, but always, always, fiscal stability. It is the same policy that all international houses recognize, but also the one that keeps our inner stability firmly in a troubled world. At the same time, it can also produce tangible results, denying the demagogues of nihilism and misery. This has been the case in recent years, this is confirmed now. This time, in fact, with initiatives incorporating a major structural change.
Because what I will announce today will apply in 2025, precisely because they are due to our annual positive course. However, they will be permanent measures at the same time, not extraordinary and targeted interventions as before. Because progress in public economic sizes is structural.
Still, these initiatives will apply in a way to enhance wider social strata, but they will mainly work prosthetic to everything that has been preceded: from successive basic remuneration and salaries and pensions increases, to improvements in salaries, and salaries.
So, based on the above, the new resources from the positive performance of the economy will be available in three directions:
First, to answer the problem of the roof. I know how difficult our fellow citizens are on rent and their first priority is my first priority. That is why we decided every year, and specifically in November, for the state to return to tenants a complete rent to light their expenses. While, of course, all the relevant programs will also evolve, namely “My Home II”, the social residence and the successive circles of “renovate”.
The second measure is aimed at about 1.5 million low -income pensioners, uninsured elders and people with disabilities, categories that will be relying on a permanent basis this year with 250 euros net, in addition to each other revenue. And this amount will be paid every year in late November.
Finally, the third government decision concerns the increase of 500 million per year of the Public Investment Program, with the aim of accelerating public projects, as well as social actions throughout the territory, but also, in the midst of international volatility, to increase investment to continue.
The financial staff will soon specify new decisions. What I personally would insist on is the state’s choice to convey to the citizens the profits of the total upheaval. Because, as I told you, I know how much those who are currently renting a home are burdened, taking a large part of their income there. I know how difficult it is for young children to leave their parents’ home and get their own home.
I still know how tested by our pensioners and other vulnerable social groups, especially those who receive the lowest pensions. But how important is investments to constantly reduce unemployment, which is ultimately the cruelest social injustice.
With confidence in the capabilities of the place and the abilities of society, I had appreciated that difficulties can be overcome and opportunities. This is also reflected by our new initiatives, proving that the more the economy of the homeland is upgraded, the more the economic position of the citizen will be upgraded, and, in fact, at the same time.
That is why I will reiterate that these permanent interventions relate this year and not the planning of 2026. This will be announced normally at the next Thessaloniki International Exhibition.
These are, of course, 1 billion initiatives, with immediate reference to key problems. It is, however, and I want to emphasize this, weighed and costly, in order to adhere to the necessary fiscal balance and the relevant forecasts of European fiscal rules. In order to substantiate that the government feels, cares for and constantly strives for a better life, seeking the success of the numbers to become the prosperity of many and the collective progress of Greece to translate into the individual progress of the Greeks. A commitment we were, we are and will be loyal.
Our priorities remain the interest of the homeland and the rebirth of society. Not with false words and inexpensive slogans, but with true actions and visible solutions, dealing with realism with every temporary obstacle, but also with the responsibility of any irresponsible propaganda that opens back doctors to new adventures. That is to say, walking on the way the direction of “we said it, we did it” and having the confidence and confidence imposed by the season, because we still have a lot to claim and much to conquer.
