Sadness in the area of Greek basketball – And not only- the news of the death of Kostas Dimos, one of the most emblematic forms of Greek and European, caused the death of the death of Kostas Dimos arbitration.
Costas Dimou passed away at the age of 89 with the news known on Easter Tuesday morning (22.04.2025). He was one of the leading Greek referees in basketball, being a member of FIBA’s Hall of Fame.
In fact, he was described as the “golden” whistle of world basketball, and was the founder of the OK. Kostas Dimou “whistled” in countless international games in his career, which began in 1961 and was completed in 1981, while participating in the 1972 Olympics in Munich and them in Moscow in 1980.
He was the referee of the 1976 World Cup final in Montevideo (Yugoslavia – Soviet Union), as well as the gold medal in women’s basketball at the 1980 Olympic Games, creating a resume so full of success and so rare.
In his long run in basketball, he was also a Commissioner of FIBA.
