Its football federation Argentinean postponed all Monday’s scheduled games (21.04.2025) to honor his memory Pope Francisa strong football fan and a loyal supporter of San Lorenzo of Buenos Aires.
“Argentina’s football tells you goodbye, wrapped in deep sadness,” the announcement said after the death of Pope Francis, on the occasion of the decision to shift all the games to his hometown by one day, while in all his games this week.
Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, was born in Buenos Aires in 1936 and passed away today (21/4) at the age of 88.
“Francis was not only a spiritual symbol, but also a football,” the federation notes, adding that he had met with players, players and legends of the sport, such as the leader of the Argentinean Lionel Messi and Diego Armando.
