The Secretary -General of UN expressed his “deepest condolences” to his death Pope Francis “To the Catholics and to the whole world inspired by the life and the example of its holiness.”
At the same time, the UN Secretary -General called Pope Francis “A messenger of hope, humility and humanity” and as “a transcendent voice in favor of peace, human dignity and social justice”.
Mr. Guterres emphasized the “faith, offer and compassion” legacy left by Pope Francis to all “especially to those who are trapped in the atrocities of conflict”, characterizing Pope Francis who worked with “all the doctrines”.
“All these years, we in the United Nations have been greatly inspired by its commitment to our organization’s goals and ideals – a message I had the honor of conveying to my meetings as Secretary General,” Mr Guterres noted.
The Secretary -General also referred to Pope Francis’ latest Easter message, in which he called on the world “not to give in to the logic of fear”, but to invest in “weapons of peace”, helping them more vulnerable, fighting hunger and promoting growth.
Concluding, he stressed that “our divided and unstable world will become much better if we follow its example of unity and mutual understanding in our own actions.”
