US: Police Concerned About Violent Incidents in Support of Donald Trump Supporters

US police warned today that violent episodes are threatened in the demonstration organized for tomorrow Saturday’s supporters of former President Donald Trump in Washington and the National Guard put 100 of its members on alert to provide assistance if needed.

Hundreds of far-right protesters are expected to gather in Washington for the “Justice for January 6” demonstration. In this way, they want to express their support to the approximately 600 people who have been arrested and accused of invading the Capitol, in their attempt to stop the validation of Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.

The police has stepped up security measures around the Capitol, as memories are still fresh from January 6 when the crowd attacked police officers, broke windows and entered the building, forcing MPs, Senators and then Vice-President of USA Mike Penns seek safe haven.

The security fence that had been removed in July was rebuilt around the Capitol.

The head of the Capitol police, Tz. Thomas Manger told reporters today that “there were some threats of violence” related to tomorrow’s demonstration. Police have set up a “plan” to prevent the mobilization from being diverted, he added.

Earlier, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin put 100 members of the National Guard on alert to help police protect the Capitol if needed.

Manger said one of the dangers police are preparing for is clashes between Trump supporters and protesters.

Most members of Congress will not be in Washington tomorrow Saturday.
