In US -Japan negotiations in view of the implementation of duties

The government of USA aims at a new trade agreement with Japan Prior to the implementation of the huge “reciprocal” duties, which have currently been frozen, according to the Japanese negotiator, Riony Acasua, after his first talks in Washington.

“I understand that the US wants to be closed agreement within 90 days. For our part, we want to be done as soon as possible, but it is a two -part negotiation, we do not know what the evolution of the talks will be, “said Mr. Acasua, finance minister, after his meetings with his US minister, Skott Beste.

Negotiations between Japan and the US for US additional customs duties and bilateral trade relations are not going to be “easy”, Japanese Prime Minister Sigerou Isiba has recognized. “Of course the talks to be held will not be easy (…) This negotiating round has laid the foundations for the next,” he said after the first day of talks in the US.

“I plan to meet President Donald Trump personally at a more appropriate time,” he added.
