Luxembourg has registered a record number of Schengen visa applications, emerging as a top destination for many international visitors and students.
According to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs’ activity 2024 report, Luxembourg received a total of 30,677 Schengen visa applications, Schengen.News reports.
This represents a 173 per cent increase compared to 2023, when the country received only 11,227 visa applications.
Commenting on the figures, the Ministry said that such a high number of applications reflects the growing appeal of Luxembourg as a study, work, and living destination.
The majority of applications filed by foreign nationals were for family reasons, with Luxembourg registering 9,009 submissions for this purpose in 2024.
Applications for tourist visas followed. Data show that Luxembourg saw 8,038 tourist visa applications last year. According to the Ministry, this is a phenomenon that was not as pronounced in the previous years, and shows that the country is becoming a more appealing destination.

In addition to the above-mentioned, in 2024, Luxembourg registered a high number of applications for business purpose visas (5,600) and long-stay visas (4,624), Luxembourg Times notes.
Indian & Turkish Nationals Main Beneficiaries of Luxembourg Visas in 2024
Similar to the previous years, Indian passport holders filed the highest number of Luxembourg applications and were granted the most visas.
Data show that Luxembourg granted a total of 5,495 Schengen visas for Indians in 2024, with them becoming the top foreign visitor group.
Indian citizens represent the largest group of third-country nationals who visited Luxembourg this year, ahead of Turkish and Chinese citizens.
Indians were followed by Turkish nationals, who also filed a large number of applications and were granted 3,373 visas last year.
The top five third-country nationalities granted the most visas by Luxembourg in 2024 include Chinese, Moroccan, and Russian nationals. Luxembourg issued 3,216 visas for Chinese nationals, 1,905 visas for Moroccan nationals, and 1,378 visas for Russian nationals last year.
Data further shows that Luxembourg received the highest number of applications at its consulate in New Delhi (4,058), followed by the consulate in Ankara (3,299). The Luxembourg embassy in Beijing also saw a high number of applications – 1,951.
The increase in applications from Chinese nationals has been attributed to the direct flights between the two countries and the cooperation with an external service provider.
