V. Kikilias: “Checks on NGOs and changes in the institutional framework”

The issue of transparency in the role and funding of non -governmental organizations raised the Minister of Maritime and Island Policy Vassilis Kikiliasduring his recent meeting with the Minister of Migration and Asylum Maki Voridis.

According to sources from the Ministry of Maritime, at least 7 files are allegedly involved in NGOs in facilitations of slave circuits involving illegal migration of immigrants to Greece and to Europe.

As the same sources say, examining these cases is due to their complex nature at various levels of justice.

With these facts, it is necessary to manage funding to ensure the legality and transparency of NGO action in the North Aegean.

It is noted that during the meeting of the two ministers, the possibility of sanctions on non -governmental organizations involved in acts of illegal trafficking of immigrants were discussed, while Minister of Migration and Asylum Makis Voridis pledged to reform the institutional framework for the institutional framework.

“We have consulted that there will be this information and, if a legislative initiative is needed in this direction of the Ministry of Immigration, is something we will do immediately,” Mr. Voridis said.
