As he notes for a year, he had requested the coordinated and decisive issuance of the government’s relevant acts and the unconditional support of the European bodies (European Parliament and the European Commission) against the Turkish threats.
In plenary of November and December 2024, he reinstated the request for EU coordinated actions to protect the seas of the Member States on the basis of the Seville Charter.
On January 6, 2025, he asked the European Commission on the obligation to complete the marine spatial planning calling for the condemnation of Turkish threats to the exercise of rights and liabilities derived from European and international law.
In his response on February 21, 2025, Commissioner for Fisheries and Seas, Mr. Kadis, confirmed the country’s obligation to proceed and categorically stated that the Commission supports Member States in completing the marine spatial planning and addressing any challenges.
On March 31, 2025, N. Farantouris said that government procrastination leaves an important tool for the protection of Greek positions and demanded positive actions following the European Commission’s response.
