The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, Speaking on a radio show, he made it clear that concerts in the Exarchia area would not be allowed again. According to the Minister, this decision is taken for public order reasons and is linked to the incidents in the area, but also to the notion that Exarchia is used by some as a base for violent actions. Mr. Chrysochoidis stressed that the area has changed a physiognomy and is on a positive course of evolution, so there is no reason to be burdened with such events, especially in such a densely populated area.
In the same interview, the minister referred to the recent terrorist attack on the offices of the Hellenic Train, making it clear that guarding private businesses is not an obligation by the police and that the presence of police officers there was the result of excessive zeal. However, he assured that the case would not be left unhappy.
Finally, Mr Chrysochoidis spoke of increasing arbitrariness on the streets, revealing that more than 9,000 drivers without a diploma were identified in the first quarter of 2025. He appealed to distribution companies and catering to be stricter in the controls of the drivers they hired, while referring to the serious issue of road behavior and traffic accidents, stressing that this is a matter of mentality that transcends police measures.
