THE will of Prince Philip it will remain sealed for at least 90 years, following a decision of the High Court of London. The degree of publicity that its publication would cause – according to the British media – would be so great and completely contrary to the purpose of maintaining the honor of the Duke of Edinburgh.
The wife of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, passed away last April at the age of 99, but his will has not yet been made public, except some leaked spots in the British press. On Thursday (16/9), according to a Daily Mail article, the Supreme Court of London ruled that his will will be sealed and will not be opened for at least 90 years, in order to preserve the privacy and dignity of the British monarchy.
In Britain, after the death of a senior member of the Royal Family – according to a 1910 law – courts are required to seal their wills. Interpreting this provision, Judge Sir Andrew McFarlane – according to the Daily Mail – ruled that the will of the late Duke of Edinburgh should be sealed and that no copy should be made for the file or to be kept as a court document.
This means that, unlike most wills, that of Prince Philip will not be made public and, according to the BBC, there will be a private process in 90 years to decide if it can be unsealed.
The will to seal the will was heard in July by the Supreme Court Justice, Sir Andrew McFarlane. The judge said he was the custodian of a safe containing more than 30 envelopes containing sealed wills of dead members of the royal family.
Prince Philip’s will is to remain SECRET for 90 years to protect the ‘dignity’ of the Queen and ‘close members of her family’ https://t.co/OuqKxjndqJ
