89th TIF: Thessaloniki at the center – the program of political leaders and the lectures at “Vellidis” (video)

Thessaloniki lives today in its rhythms 89th Thessaloniki International Exhibition (TIF)the great celebration of the economy, entrepreneurship and – traditionally – politics. Workshops are working feverishly to complete kiosks and impressive infrastructure, while traffic has already implemented strict traffic measures in view of the arrival of political leaders.

Like every year, interest focuses on speeches and press interviews of political leaders, which also mark the informal start of the new political period.

The program of political leaders in the 89th TIF

  • Saturday 6 September
    The prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will inaugurate the report. In the morning he will tour the stands and meet with the TIF administration, while in the evening (19:30) he will speak from the step of the Ioannis Vellidis Conference Center presenting the key axes of government policy.

OR 89th TIF This year also confirms its character as a meeting point for political, economic and social developments. Political leaders’ speeches are expected to give the country’s mark next time, with an emphasis on the economy, investment, social policy and international relations.

Thessaloniki, for two weeks, is converted to center of public debate – Where entrepreneurship meets the political strategy and where citizens are looking for answers for the next day.

In force the traffic arrangements in the center

Draconian measures for the movement of vehicles in downtown Thessaloniki have been announced by the Traffic Police in view of the 89th TIF and the inauguration ceremony on Saturday. The settings will be implemented gradually and culminate on the weekend.

Standing and parking bans

Already on Thursday afternoon (04/09) at 15:00, a ban and parking ban on Army Avenue and September 3rd, a measure that will last until Sunday night (07/09, 20:00).

From Friday morning (05/09) at 06:00 and until Sunday at 20:00, the parking ban is expanding to a wide network of roads, including streets:

  • Angelaki (all along)
  • National Defense (from Agios Dimitrios to the White Tower)

  • Grigoriou Lambraki
  • Armenopoulou
  • Nicholas
  • Jassonidou
  • Kaftanzoglou (only on the descent current)

Total traffic interruption on Saturday

On Saturday (06/09), the inauguration day, all vehicles will be stopped from 15:00 noon until the end of the events in central arteries in the city. The roads that will be closed include, among other things, Army Avenues, Vasilissis Olga, Vassileos Georgiou, Nikis, Kountouriotis, Konstantinou Karamanlis, as well as the streets of September 3rd, Egnatia, Tsimiski, Agios Dimitrios, Agia Sofia, Agia Sofia.

Especially for Stilonos Kyriakidis Street, the parking ban will take effect from 08:00 to 20:00 on Saturday.

Alternative routes

Traffic suggests drivers to move through alternative routes. Specifically:

  • From east to west: Traffic will be carried out via Katsimidis, the Ring Road, and then through Agios Dimitrios and Olympiados.
  • From west to east: Drivers are called upon to use October 26, Lagada and the Ring Road.

The Thessaloniki Traffic Directorate will have an increased presence in all central hubs, with travelers facilitating the traffic and providing instructions to avoid congestion.
