27% drop in wholesale of the current brought winds – negative prices appeared in recent days

At low levels for the season levels lies the price wholesale of electric power The month we are in, as a result of mainly high RES production.

At a time when the average power in July was found at 100 euros/MWh, during the first nine days of August, it has fallen to 73 euros, ie 27%.

At that time the highest price was 92 euros on August 1st and the lowest at 60 euros at 3/8.

Particularly high is the decline compared to last year, when the average price had reached 137 euros, that is almost twice as much.

The reasons for this year’s reduction are both domestic and exogenous. Last year’s problems were not observed this year in the SE regional market of SE Europe, which had been upwarding the Greek market. The situation in neighboring countries is smoother and no issues with adequacy or cross -border trade are observed.

At the same time, in recent days, intense winds in our country have raised the production of RES, which now reaches 65% of the total. Indicatively, on Friday, demand was high with 207 gigaurs, but the quantities of green energy reduced gas to 26% and imports to only 0.6%.

For today, Saturday, a corresponding image is being formed with eight consecutive hours of negative price from 9am to 4pm.

It remains to be seen how the market will be in the rest of August, in order to form the definitive wholesale price that will determine the September retail invoices.
