Duty 25% will impose on India The US from August 1st, according to US President Donald Trump and has proposed to add additional sanctions to Russia’s energy markets.
In a post today (30.7.2025) on Truth Social, India has duties that is “one of the highest in the world and has the strictest and annoying non -monetary commercial obstacles than any other country”.
It also states that India has always bought most of its military equipment from Russia and is Russia’s largest energy buyer, along with China, now that everyone wants Russia to stop attacks in Ukraine, so India will pay a 25%duty, plus one.
“Remember that, although India is our friend, all these years we have made a few transactions with her, because her duties are too high, one of the highest in the world, and has the strictest and unpleasant non -monetary commercial obstacles from any other country. He also has always bought most of Russia’s military equipment and is Russia’s largest energy buyer, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the murders in Ukraine – all this is not good! Therefore, INDIA will pay a 25%duty as an additional penalty for the above, from August 1st. Thanks for your attention on this subject. Maga!
Trump’s announcement comes before the deadline of August 1, 2025, which he raised to impose new import duties on dozens of commercial partners.
The burdens are destroying the hopes of New Delhi for privileged treatment over its regional counterparts. India was one of the first to start talks with Washington after Prime Minister Narendra Monti’s visit to the White House in February.
For much of this year, the Monty government had adopted a compromise towards Trump, reshaping India’s tariff structure and offering several commercial and migratory concessions to the US government. However, in recent weeks, New Delhi has adopted a tougher stance, as negotiations have reached a deadlock due to controversial issues such as Georgia.
Trump had previously stated that a “very important” agreement was to be signed, which would open the Indian market to US businesses. However, it has since changed its stance, stating yesterday (29.7.2025) that it could impose 20% to 25% duties in South Asia.
